ACIS 2025 Doctoral Consortium Nominations
Nominations are invited for the Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS) 2025 Doctoral Consortium. The Consortium provides a unique opportunity for doctoral students in Information Systems to present their research to an audience of peers and senior faculty.
Objective
The Consortium focuses on providing constructive feedback to students on their research and provides students with an opportunity to:
- present their work in a supportive and constructive environment
- receive feedback and suggestions from peers and experienced faculty
- gain an overview of the breadth, depth, and directions of IS research
- discuss concerns about research, supervision, and other career-related issues
- network with peers, future colleagues and experienced IS scholars
Eligibility
The Consortium is limited to 25 students. Candidates must be current doctoral students from a recognised university. Each IS department/school can nominate a maximum of 2 candidates and must rank their applications.
Ideally, the candidate should have chosen their theoretical approach, developed their methodology, and started their empirical work, but should at the time of the Consortium have at least 6-12 months of work remaining before expected completion.
Important Dates
- Nomination deadline: 8 September 2025
- Notification of Acceptance: 29 September 2025
- Doctoral Consortium: Day 1 (1 December 2025)
- Doctoral Consortium: Day 2 (2 December 2025)
Location
University of the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay Campus.
The campus is across the road from the Petrie train station. There are several train options between the campus and the Brisbane Central station (and beyond). The travel time between the campus and the Brisbane Central station is around 30 minutes and the fee is currently 50 cents. This is particularly helpful for the attendees who choose an accommodation in Brisbane.
Application
Nominees are required to prepare the following three documents and submit them as a single pdf file.
(1) Nominee Information Sheet: Students complete the information sheet and submit it along with the other two documents below.
(2) PhD Thesis Proposal: The proposal should have a maximum of 10 A4 pages (10pt Georgia, single space, including references and appendices but excluding the cover page).
- The Cover Page should include the title of the proposal and information about the student including name, university and abstract. The abstract should be between 40 to 150 words.
- The main body of the proposal should include the thesis title, a brief description of the context of the research, problematisation/rationale for the research, the research question(s) to be addressed, summary of key literature, the underlying theories, research model, proposed hypotheses (if applicable), research method and expected study contributions to research and practice.
(3) Nomination Letter: A nomination letter from the nominating faculty. Normally, the nominating faculty should be the Dean, Head of Department/School or PhD Programme Coordinator. Alternatively, if these persons are not available, the nominee’s Dissertation Advisor may nominate the student. Important: Students must be nominated by their department/university. Self-nominations will not be accepted. A nomination implies that should the student be accepted they will have the support from their university needed to attend the Doctoral Consortium in person and participate in all activities.
All submissions must be made via the ACIS 2025 Doctoral Consortium Nomination Form.
The language of the consortium is English. All submitted materials must be in English. Attendees must have sufficient proficiency in English to allow them to participate in the academic discussions of the Consortium.
Selection Process
Participants will be selected based on the following criteria:
- the quality of proposed research
- significance of the research and the potential contribution
- the potential contribution the student can make to the Doctoral Consortium
- the potential benefit of the Doctoral Consortium to the student’s research and professional development.
Registration and Cost
There is no registration fee to attend the Consortium. However, nominating institutions are expected to provide financial assistance to successful nominees in the form of travel and accommodation expenses. The students must attend all Consortium activities on both days.
Please note: All accepted students to the Consortium must register for and attend the ACIS 2025 conference, which immediately follows the Consortium. All students will require to pay the reduced (student) registration fee. This will cover attendance at all conference sessions and exhibits, and conference lunches/refreshment breaks.
