Description
Technology-facilitated abuse (TFA) within the context of domestic and family violence (DFV) represents a critical and deeply troubling manifestation of the dark side of information systems. Despite growing media attention and scholarly engagement in disciplines such as criminology, social sciences, and public health, the Information Systems (IS) field has remained conspicuously silent.
This panel seeks to provoke and challenge this silence and interrogate the reasons behind this neglect. Is the topic considered taboo within IS? Are we complicit in ignoring the weaponisation of technologies we design and study? What ethical responsibilities do IS researchers bear when the very systems that drive the digital economy are repurposed for harm? The panel invites scholars to critically reflect on the discipline’s role and responsibility in addressing technology’s dual capacity to empower and to abuse and conclude with a call to action.
