Workshops
The Australasian Conference on Information Systems 2024 is offering several special interest workshops during the conference. We invited the IS community to submit workshop proposals in areas of Information Systems research, especially those related to the conference theme of “Digital Futures for a Sustainable Society” which focuses on the integration of sustainability principles into digital practices.

1 | AJIS Paper Development Workshop Michael Davern and Stuart Black The purpose of the workshop is to develop and nurture research in the region, consistent with the current goal of AJIS to promote “interesting and sufficiently rigorous” research. We welcome work-in-progress or early full-draft papers on any IS topic within the scope of AJIS. A workshop submission does not bind authors to submit the paper to AJIS, nor does acceptance at the workshop guarantee the paper will ultimately be accepted for publication in the journal. The workshop will run for a full day and is an opportunity for scholars to share their developing works. We envisage a mix of brief workshop presentations, together with individualised and small group mentoring, feedback and guidance provided by the AJIS editorial team and other senior academics. As this runs concurrently with the ACIS Doctoral Consortium, doctoral consortium participants should not apply. Author Registration Required before 21 November Submissions should be at least 10 pages (excluding references and tables) and follow the usual author guidelines for AJIS. We stress that this is not an idea development workshop – we are focused on helping ‘unstick and extend’ current research initiatives and accelerate their path towards publication. Early-career researchers are encouraged to apply, but the workshop is not restricted to early-career researchers. Submissions should be submitted to the Co-Editors-in-Chief at ajis.eic@aaisnet.org. Together with your submission please indicate which author or authors will be attending the workshop if the submission is accepted. Only authors of accepted papers will be permitted to attend the workshop. Submissions will be desk reviewed by the AJIS editorial team with decisions made on a rolling basis until the workshop reaches capacity, or until November 21. Please indicate what you would like to get out of the workshop with your submission. 2 | Junior Faculty Development Workshop Rajeev Sharma This full day workshop for junior faculty who are within three years of their PhD completion will focus on the development of knowledge and skills in conducting and writing of good research, understanding editorial expectations, theory and theoretical contribution, crafting a paper’s introduction, writing the literature review, problematization and theorization, and drafting of the manuscript. Participant Registration Required before 1 December The workshop will cover topics related to making theoretical contributions and publishing papers in high-quality journals., will conduct it.
For more information about the workshop and registration, please contact the workshop program chair, Rajeev Sharma, at r.sharma@deakin.edu.au or Vivian Ma at hanzhuo.ma@deakin.edu.au. 3 | Shaping Digital Futures: Information Systems Research Aligning the People, Process, Data and Technology Paradigm Hamed Sarbazhosseini, Sahber Monshizada, Sisira Adikari, Dany Duong and Yogaraj Sivapragasam The people, process, data, and technology (2PDT) paradigm is not new to IS scholars. However, with the recent advancements in IS research such as the demand towards AI or Cybersecurity or even IS in social context, it is expected that this paradigm can contribute to newer body of knowledge that may not have been explored previously. In this workshop, we aim to firstly share our recent findings and contributions in different contexts utilising the 2PDT paradigm including AI capabilities, Cybersecurity for Australian Medical Practices, Singapore’s construction 4.0 roadmap, system and thinking design, and even from a management perspective. In this step, we first present five different literatures in IS and discuss variations of 2PDT to shape research questions, design, data collection and analysis. Secondly, we aim to evaluate the 2PDT and receive input from participants. We engage and collate inputs from participants and the context of their respective interests or expertise. Lastly, the revised paradigm is summarised and contributions to possible body of knowledge will be discussed. | Refer to the schedule in the App for the latest schedule. | ||||||||||||||||||
4 | Discover new tools to help you navigate the literature Sander Zwanenburg, Sebastian Boell and Blair Wang This workshop will focus on enhancing participants’ ability to navigate the bodies of literature relevant to Information Systems (IS) research. In doing so, this workshop works towards a secondary objective of supporting participants’ ability to conduct literature reviews. These objectives are achieved through the demonstrated use of two tools: LitBaskets and PermuSearch, and a discussion of how they can be used with other tools. Note: To gain the most out of this workshop, please bring a laptop or tablet computer. | Refer to the schedule in the App for the latest schedule. |
