Attending the Australasian Conference on Information Systems is an opportunity to engage with a vibrant regional and global community of IS researchers, practitioners, and thought leaders that are helping to assess the past and present of the discipline as well as shaping it’s future. Held since Now in its 36th year, ACIS is an Affiliated AIS Conference and indexed by allowing ACIS research to be disseminated worldwide. ACIS has always striven to be an inclusive and respectful academic event that values diversity in research activities, our professional arrangements and throughout the many societies and cultures we seek to support.
ACIS has always been a site for innovation in the support of the Australasian IS Community. This year for example, a new Provocations Track aims to foreground uncomfortable and potentially controversial matters of relevance to the discipline. This track is also a new article development pathway to the Australasian Journal of Information Systems (AJIS) our diamond, open access Q1 ranked journal; see SCIMAGO. Another innovation is the IS Disciplinary Forum. This is an activity that is undertaken in three parts. The first is a virtual meeting conducted in late August/early Sept, that ‘crowdsources’ questions that are considered by attendees to be critical to the sector and discipline. Extended abstracts are requested from contributors with espoused positions on questions that emerge at the virtual meeting. Examples of questions might be, ‘government changing regulations on overseas students’, ‘university executive mismanagement and potential government inquiries’ or the ‘disruptive role of AI in the sector’ etc. The second part will be a forum held at the conference, conducted like a focus group with the’ feel’ of an episode of Insights (if you are familiar with that SBS program). We will record the discussions and in real time build mind-maps for each of the discussion questions. The third part of the IS Policy Forum is to consolidate the discussions into a white paper, to be published in our own AAIS Preprint service (also about to be launched latter this year), available to the community, that will uncover issues and inform policy and action for the community.
There are various benefits for attending ACIS regardless of your seniority. Click on the Getting value from ACIS regardless of whether you are IS PhD students, an early career academic, an experienced researcher, or an industry professional, the conference provides tailored events with longer term benefits to support your career, professional and intellectual goals.
Across all activities- including Workshops, Annual General Meetings, and informal networking opportunities- attendees can expect to build meaningful collaborations, strengthen their academic profiles, and stay informed on key developments in the field. ACIS is well regarded as a convivial and supportive conference that emphasises feedback, mentorship, and collaboration in information systems research and practice. You are welcome to join us this year and experience ACIS for yourself.
