Presentation and Presenter Guidelines
To develop your presentation for ACIS, please consider the following guidelines for developing the slide decks, checks for language and images, and some advice around media modes during presentation:
Presentation Duration
- Full papers: 20 minutes total – with a maximum of 10 minutes allocated for the presentation to allow sufficient time for 10 minutes of Q&A / discussions.
- Short/Research-in-progress papers: 15 minutes total – with a maximum of 7 minutes allocated for the presentation to allow for 8 minutes of Q&A / discussions.
- Poster-Slam Papers: 15 minutes total, including a maximum of 3 minutes for the pitch without slides, allowing for 12 minutes of Q&A / discussions in front of the poster.
Slide Decks
- avoid unnecessary flashing or moving objects and animations during sessions
- use hyperlinks if sharing the presentation with attendees afterwards
- use QR-codes instead of long URLs (if presentation is not shared)
- ensure presentations use high contrast colours for text on coloured backgrounds
Language and Images
- are inclusive and diverse
- free from gender, cultural, religion-based, age-based and LGBTQI+ stereotypes
- make sure that virtual or physical backgrounds are plain to reduce distraction
Media Modes during Presentations
- describe any visual information on slides such as graphics and pictures
- read aloud any text passages not actively talked about
- audio-describe videos where appropriate. If this is not possible the presenter should describe visual information on their presentations
- text audio settings and speaker systems prior to the event to avoid excessive volume for videos
